Week 6: The Documentation Marathon

Week 6: The Documentation Marathon

This week was all about crossing the finish line with the HOMIS+ user manual. What I thought would be simple final touches turned into an unexpected battle with formatting and consistency. I can safely say that Google Docs and I developed a love-hate relationship. Just when I thought I had all the headings perfectly aligned, something would mysteriously shift. The numbering system for steps kept resetting itself, and don't even get me started on how screenshots would jump around the page when I added new text.

The work was more tedious than I anticipated. Making sure every section followed the same structure, that all the terminology matched, and that the screenshots were clear and properly labeled became a repetitive cycle of write-check-edit-repeat. There were moments when I'd stare at the screen wondering, "Didn't I already fix this exact same issue three pages ago?"

As the deadline for next week's demo training orientation approached, I found myself working overtime at home to get everything polished. My laptop became a permanent fixture on my dining table, surrounded by notes and reference materials. The satisfaction of finally completing the entire OPD module manual made all the late nights worth it, though I may have developed a temporary PTSD every time I see Google Docs.

Looking back, I gained more from this experience than I expected. Beyond just learning the HOMIS+ system, I developed patience for detail-oriented work and a better understanding of how to organize technical information clearly. Now that the manual is done, I'm actually looking forward to seeing it used during next week's training. Though I might need a few days before I can look at another Google Doc without crying.

The best part? Knowing that my work will help real users navigate the new system. That thought makes all the formatting struggles fade into the background... well, almost. At least until I have to make revisions.
